Saleh Sami, Governor of Al Mahwit, in northern Yemen, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed, vowed that he would "cry over the day that Socotra stepped foot."

This came in a Twitter post on Friday evening, after the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council forces took control of the center of the Socotra Archipelago Governorate (South Yemen).

Sami, who is also a leader in the General People's Congress party, said: "Take this from me and keep it for Qadam Al-Ayyam: Muhammad bin Zayed will cry in regret for the day he stepped on the plains of Socotra and its mountains."

The Yemeni official called on Bin Zayed to "review those who drowned about the misery of their past in Yemen and to preach and prudence."

Take this from me and keep it for the leaders of the days:
Muhammad bin Zayed will cry in regret for the day he stepped foot in the plains of Socotra and its mountains and to ask the Turks and the English about the misery of their past in Yemen and what they drenched in it if he was preaching and reasonable

In another tweet, the Yemeni official explained that "Socotra was in the past and is in the present and will remain in the future a solid part of the territory of the Republic of Yemen, and any foreign presence in it, whether direct or indirect, will not deny a right in the present and will not legitimize the foreign presence in the future."

Sami, who is a university professor of law, stressed that this is what is required by the rules of public international law, calling on "Yemeni parents not to be miserable."

And Friday, the forces of the Southern Transitional Council took control of the headquarters of the local authority in Socotra, after the withdrawal of the government forces, hours after they took control of the Socotra Security Directorate building located in the city of Hadibu, the center of the governorate.

The Yemeni government considered the transitional control of state institutions and the bombing of civilians "a brutal attack, rebellion and a clear coup against the legitimate authority."

She added - in a statement - that "this is a conspiracy that transcends any internal disputes, and was stained with internal cover and internal tools to achieve goals and hatreds targeting the Yemeni person and the Yemeni land."

A government source told the island that the Yemeni presidency had contacted the Saudi authorities to intervene in Socotra, but had not received any response.

Local sources quoted Hadibu residents as appealing to the international community to compel the UAE and the transitional forces to stop bombing the city and protect Socotra Archipelago as a world heritage site.
