May 25, 2020 Only two days to the summit of the European Commission on May 27 , in which the proposal of the Recovery Fund will be presented . The President of the European Parliament David Sassoli launches an appeal "I make an appeal to the responsibility" of Holland, Austria, Denmark and Sweden. "There are no frugal countries and other spenders. Rather, there are countries aware of the challenges we face and unaware countries," said Sassoli, interviewed today by the network of women correspondents Brux-Elle, answering a question about the proposals of Austria, Denmark, Holland Sweden on the Recovery Fund.

"This is why I ask everyone to live up to this historic moment. Everyone takes advantage of the benefits of the European Market and the countries that have raised objections are among the main recipients. I hope everyone is aware. It is not the time of rigidity but of reconstruction, otherwise we will be forced to a Europe at different speeds ", concluded Sassoli.

After Sassoli's words, a round of telephone calls began with colleagues from the four countries called 'frugal' which involved the Minister for European Affairs, Enzo Amendola and his counterparts from Austria, Denmark, Sweden, last week with the countries Netherlands.

'Nobody can do it alone. Together we must defend the European market and its reforms. I explained the Italian Government's concerns about their proposal for the Recovery Fund. For us, it is based on an excessively defensive approach - explains Amendola - given the recessionary risks that affect European value chains and production sectors. This is an important week. Tomorrow I will participate in the General Affairs Council in view of the meeting of the EU Commission on 27 May, where the Recovery Fund proposal will be presented. "

For Amendola it is not time for downward mediations, but to plan adequate tools to support the competitiveness of the European economy. We ask for more ambition and innovative choices, especially to those countries which, in recent years, have received greater advantages and benefits from the European single market. '

Austria entrusts its European representative with a first indiscretion on the figures: a € 500 billion recovery fund, active until 2022, made up for the most part of grants, in addition to a European budget of around € 1,000 billion: these are the figures of the proposal that the European Commission will present on Wednesday, according to Martin Selmayr, representative of the commission in Austria, in an interview with the Austrian news agency.

Selmayr explains that the distribution of loans and grants is not yet definitive, but 60% or 70% should go without a doubt.
