In 2012, the Taliban wanted to kill her when she returned from school in Pakistan. Friday, Malala Yousafzai, a global symbol of the education struggle, announced her “joy” at graduating from the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom. "It's hard to express my joy and gratitude now that I graduated in philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford," said the 22-year-old on Twitter. Her message is accompanied by photos, one of which shows her celebrating her diploma by sharing a cake with loved ones.

Hard to express my joy and gratitude right now as I completed my Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree at Oxford. I don't know what's ahead. For now, it will be Netflix, reading and sleep. 😴 pic.twitter.com/AUxN55cUAf

"I don't know what will happen next. For now, it will be Netflix, reading and sleeping, "added the young woman. Malala had been admitted to the prestigious university in 2017 after having been educated in a high school in Birmingham. She had taken refuge with her family in this city in central England in 2012, after being very badly injured by the Taliban.

A long fight

Malala Yousafzai started her fight in 2007, when the Taliban imposed their law in its valley of Swat, hitherto peaceful tourist region. At 11, this daughter of a school principal and an illiterate mother contributes a blog on the BBC website in Urdu, the national language. Under the pseudonym of Gul Makai, she describes the climate of fear prevailing in her valley. It is gaining notoriety and the Taliban decide to eliminate it, accusing it of carrying "Western propaganda".

Aged 15, she was shot in the head and shoulder in the attack on the school bus which brought her back from her school in Mingora, in the Swat valley. Since then, she has become an icon in defense of women's right to education and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, which she received at just 17 years old.
