Operation Crankbrook Marchica. This is how the operation that has allowed the dismantling in Valencia of a criminal organization dedicated to the extraction of large quantities of narcotic drugs from the port of Valencia has been named. In this case, agents of the Civil Guard and the National Police have intervened almost four tons of cocaine from South America. Specifically, 3,800 kilos that arrived at the port hidden in packages of folios, sugar sacks, pineapple pulp, California walnuts and even within the frame of an autogyro .

The investigation had begun last April after the alert from the American agencies DEA and HSI, which pointed to a possible increase in the arrival of containers capable of containing some type of narcotic at the port of Valencia. In fact, after these investigations it has been possible to verify how several international criminal organizations have taken advantage of the declaration of the state of alarm in Spain to try to introduce "significant consignments of cocaine from South America, for storage and subsequent distribution throughout Europe." They assumed that the controls would be less by the Spanish authorities, as reported by police sources on Friday.

In this specific operation , a total of 11 people have been arrested , all of them of Spanish nationality except for two Dutch and another citizen of Ivory Coast. Five vehicles, a trailer truck, several high-end clocks and various electronic equipment such as frequency inhibitors or encrypted telephone terminals have also been intervened.

The operation has also focused on analyzing possible criminal structures inside the port, and it can be corroborated that various personnel with access to different port facilities used this privileged situation or provided it to third parties to access and "rescue or recover" different items of drug, according to the same sources.

Regarding the six intervened containers, one of them came from the United States with legal cargo , specifically with California walnuts, being "contaminated" at some transit point in Panama or Colombia by introducing backpacks with more than half a ton of cocaine in its interior. This is known as the "blind hook" method.

Another of them arrived at the port of Valencia at the beginning of June, using a more sophisticated introduction method than the previous one, the one known by the police as "business to business". In this case, it is about chartering a merchandise among which the drug hides, pretending to be a legal import between two companies in the same sector. They did it with packages of folios from a cellulose in Brazil. This method stands out for the difficulty that its detection entails for the investigating units, since the chosen companies are companies with a high legal maritime commercial movement and a commercial history that is in principle out of any suspicion, as police sources have highlighted.

One of the strongest blows to this organization was in the third and fourth of the intervened containers, from which they planned to extract the drug the same day, both located in the port's transit terminal. To do this, members of the organization accessed the terminal in a trailer truck with the intention of violating the seals of the containers and extracting the drug . On this occasion, nine people directly involved in the facts investigated were arrested.

And just a few days ago, the last container, from Costa Rica , managed to intervene , transporting 1,862 kilograms of cocaine inside, hidden in backpacks prepared for extraction in a shipment of pineapple pulp. What is striking is that, according to the researchers, it is not usual to introduce such a large batch of cocaine without hiding the drug between the cargo inside the container.

This operation has been coordinated by the Valencia special anti-drug delegate prosecutor and carried out jointly by investigators from the Civil Guard and the National Police, with the collaboration inside the port area of the Tax Agency.
