The statute of the Order of Pirogov states that he is awarded citizens of Russia and foreign citizens who have shown dedication in providing medical care in emergency situations and epidemics, for their contribution to the prevention and treatment of especially dangerous diseases, the development and implementation of diagnostic methods and drugs, preclinical and clinical trials of new drugs, the organization of emergency medical care and inpatient treatment.

In addition, the order is awarded for special personal merits in the implementation of charitable activities to support hospices and hospitals and for great merits in the development of volunteering.

In this case, rewarding, as a rule, is made subject to the presence of another state award presented to the order.

Practical doctors, medical personnel and pharmaceutical workers are awarded the Luke Krymsky Medal for their contribution to the organization of medical care, “high professionalism in treating patients in difficult conditions, saving their lives and maintaining health”.
