Losc coach Christophe Galtier at the first press point of the season. - G. Durand / 20 Minutes

  • Losc coach Christophe Galtier held the first press conference after the 2019-2020 season was interrupted.
  • The recovery for Lille footballers will take place in two phases until the start of the championship scheduled for August.

"It speaks a lot, a lot, a lot and it laughs a lot, a lot, a lot." Losc coach Christophe Galtier spoke on Friday of the resumption of training for Lille footballers at the first press conference of the 2020-2021 season. A particular recovery after the epidemic episode of Covid-19 which turned the calendar upside down.

“I have the impression of a large daycare center with children. The training sessions are very noisy. The players are very happy to meet again. It's very pleasant, ”admits Christophe Galtier, who will have his work cut out for him. Because, according to him, "after three months of stopping, the relationship with the ball is lost" and "re-athletics" is necessary.

"There will have been 168 days without an official match"

"Between the last match against Lyon in March and the resumption of the new championship scheduled for August 23, there will have been 168 days without an official match, it's unheard of," notes the Lille coach, who also wanted to close the previous season with its workforce.

So he wanted to establish a specific fitness recovery program. "Once a week, the players received a physical maintenance program, but maintenance is not training," he notes. The people of Lille were therefore among the first pros to put on their crampons on June 11.

The first phase of this recovery will last, gently, until July 3. Then, cut nine days, before continuing with the more classic preparation, for six weeks, before returning to competition. Six friendly matches are scheduled, but against whom? “Many European countries have resumed competition. It may be difficult to find valuable opponents in a period when other teams will be at rest, ”wonders Christophe Galtier.

A suspended internship in Portugal

This is why the course, planned in Portugal, remains on hold. Just like the international transfer window. “We're not talking about a transfer window. Players are solicited, it's true, but there will be a time lag. It will be the complexity of this start to the season, ”said the coach. The only certainty is that Brazilian defender Gabriel (mentioned in Naples) and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen are on the start.

After missing the Champions League by one point - with the interruption of the championship due to the Covid-19 epidemic - the club can harbor regrets at the start of the 2019-2020 season for the least winded. “We can express frustration with this 4th place, but I moved on to something else. We were not in 3rd place at the time because we lost points stupidly. Experience must serve. "
