- We wanted the region to compensate the municipalities who are in the front line and wear protective equipment in their work. It is very sad that they do not meet us in that demand, says Jenny Sjöström, who is the chair of Municipal Health Care and Traffic Kronoberg to SVT.

- I have not seen the letter myself, but I find it a strange request, says Mikael Johansson (M), chairman of the regional board.

Have been up there before

Earlier, SVT has reported that the Left Party in Växjö has proposed that all employees in the Region who wear protective equipment in their work with corona infected patients should receive an extra SEK 500 per work pass.

Thus, the municipal government has now made a similar proposal on behalf of its members. According to the municipality, wearing protective equipment is a great burden for the body - and the work with corona infected and covid-19 patients is mentally stressful. Therefore, Municipal wanted the region to offer either money or shortening of working hours, but the answer was no.

- By denying compensation, the good work we do is not confirmed. We at Kommunal are surprised that they are not willing to show appreciation for those in the front line, concludes Jenny Sjöström.

"They paid after all"

SVT has applied for regional director Martin Myrskog, who received the letter but did not receive it. On the other hand, the chairman of the regional council is speaking. He himself has not taken part in the request, but he says the request is very strange.

"After all, they take on the equipment during working hours and they have paid for it, after all, operating personnel do this every day and it goes well," says the regional board chairman Mikael Johansson (M).
