A language preschool is specialized in children with different speech and language development. Here, staff with special knowledge work in close collaboration with a speech therapist.

After the language preschool in Växjö was discontinued five years ago, it is the last one in Ljungby - and receives children from the entire county. But in April, the Kronoberg Region decided to stop sending children with special needs to the language preschool.

Instead, children should receive occasional visits by the speech therapist in a regular preschool group.

"The disadvantages (with language preschool) is that the child is not in his social context and can be associated with travel alone in a service car." stands in the decision of the Board of Health.

"Woefully"

Several politicians made reservations about the decision and it has received criticism from parents, preschool staff and speech therapists, as the children do not receive as much support.

"It is sad that you kick away the support the children receive," says Josefin Durehed, whose daughter Elsa goes to preschool.

For Ljungby municipality it came as a surprise, as they instead have to take the transport costs. Yesterday, Wednesday, the Board of Education would decide whether to completely shut down Language Preschool.

- I started a protest list and we wrote to the politicians, says Josefin Durehed.

Decision is postponed

Instead of decommissioning, politicians unanimously decided to postpone the issue in the future, to get a better picture.

- We have to go back and listen to the expertise a bit. And we have not received figures from the region about the cost of transport. We have contacted the region to have a meeting as soon as possible, says Jan-Erik Andersson (C) Vice Chairman of the Education Board.

What are you talking about?

- To come up with a good solution together.
