The County Administrative Board's decision to hunt for a wolf is thus firm, but no wolf may be shot if there are annual puppies in the vicinity.

- When we made a decision on shelter hunting, we did not know that there were any annual puppies, says Mia Kjällander, game manager on the County Administrative Board, and adds that the instructions given to the hunting leader were not to shoot the wolf if possible.

The wolf bitch is protected with puppies

The administrative court's decision most likely means that the wolf will be protected in the near future as she is with the puppies all the time at first.

- It would be best to remove a puppy last year. A puppy last year that is male is usually already bigger than the female, says Mia Kjällander.

The County Administrative Board's decision to hunt for protection was appealed by three organizations and seven private individuals. The first organization's appeal, Nord Ulv, was rejected already last week, after which NordUlv went ahead and appealed the decision to the Chamber of Appeal in Sundsvall, where the matter has not yet been decided.

Individuals not entitled to appeal

The Administrative Court also stated in its judgment that private individuals who have no personal connection to the area where the wolf is located are not entitled to appeal against the County Administrative Board's decision. Nor did they consider that one of the organizations has the right to appeal because it has not been registered as a non-profit association for more than three years. It remains for the Swedish Predators Association to decide whether to appeal the Administrative Court's decision to the Administrative Court of Appeal.
