A man in his thirties was shot dead at midday on Thursday in the street in downtown Ajaccio. The events took place in the middle of the day near a fast food located in Cours Grandval, a few hundred meters from the Corsican Assembly. Attorney General Carine Greff attended the scene.

The victim is known to the police and justice services, in particular for drug trafficking and robbery in 2016, according to a source close to the investigation. It was the second homicide in ten days in Ajaccio. At around 10 p.m. on June 7, a helmeted gunman shot and wounded a man in a brewery on the outskirts of Ajaccio. The same evening, a man known to the authorities had also been seriously wounded by gunshot on Île Rousse in Haute-Corse.
