From our correspondent in Rome,

A "holiday bonus", yes, but not for everyone. To take advantage of this, annual income must not exceed 40,000 euros. That said, in Italy, the average amount declared by taxpayers is 33,200 euros.

The value of the bonus is 150 euros for a single person, 300 for a two-person household and 500 for a family of more than three people.

The government's objective is to support tourism professionals by encouraging Italians to take their holidays in a hotel structure on the peninsula. The bonus will be valid from July 1 to December 31, 2020.

Months that promise to be very delicate for the tourism sector, whose turnover could fall by 3.2 billion euros, according to the latest estimates.
