Iran condemns US sanctions on Syria

Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, June 18 (Reporter Chen Lin) Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mousavi condemned the US sanctions on Syria, saying that Iran will continue to strengthen relations with Syria.

Mousavi told the Iranian media that day, when faced with the New Crown Virus, such "inhuman sanctions" would only deepen the suffering of the Syrian people. This is US economic terrorism against the Syrian people and an attempt by the United States to destabilize Syria. Iran will not support the bullying of unilateral sanctions.

Mousavi also said that Iran will, as always, strengthen bilateral relations with Syria.

The US State Department announced on the 17th that it sanctioned 39 entities and individuals related to Syria, including Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and his wife. All sanctioned persons and entities’ assets in the United States will be frozen.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the same day that the US government sanctions violated international laws and regulations and were "a new form of terrorism."
