Read moreThree years is the course set by the Ministries of Economy and Health. By then, France should be able to master the entire chain of production of paracetamol, a drug now mainly produced, like many others, in Asia and in particular in China.
Rediscovering health sovereignty, no longer being dependent on foreign powers, is therefore the meaning of this approach and of the work that began in collaboration with the major French laboratories Sanofi, Seqens and UPSA.
For the Minister of Health, this first example should call others. " No one can imagine that France will one day be unable to allow everyone to access care, treatment and medication, " said Olivier Véran.
The choice of paracetamol is also symbolic. Recommended to combat the symptoms caused by the new coronavirus, the drug had seen its sales limited in pharmacies and suspended on the internet for fear of shortage.
This initiative is finally shared at European level. Brussels speaks of a strategic autonomy to be ensured by storing or relocating productions. Like France, the other EU countries depend mainly on their Asian suppliers.
