China News Service, June 18, according to news from the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian answered reporters' questions about the dialogue between Yang Jiechi and US Secretary of State Pompeo. Zhao Lijian said that during the dialogue, Yang Jiechi clarified China's basic attitude towards the development of Sino-US relations and its position on important sensitive issues such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang.

A reporter asked: During the dialogue between Director Yang Jiechi and US Secretary of State Pompeo, did you talk about the outstanding issues in recent bilateral relations, such as Taiwan and Hong Kong-related issues?

In this regard, Zhao Li insisted that during the dialogue, Yang Jiechi clarified China's basic attitude towards the development of Sino-US relations and its position on important sensitive issues such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that cooperation between China and the United States will benefit both sides while fighting will hurt both sides. Cooperation is the only correct choice for both sides. China is committed to working together with the United States to develop a relationship of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation, while firmly defending its sovereignty, security, and development interests. It is hoped that the US and China will go hand in hand, earnestly implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, and push the relations between the two countries back to the track of coordination, cooperation and stability.

On the Taiwan issue, Yang Jiechi emphasized that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. The one-China principle is the political foundation of Sino-US relations. China's determination and will to defend its core interests are unwavering. China demands that the US side strictly abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, and handle Taiwan-related issues carefully and properly.

On Hong Kong-related issues, Yang Jiechi pointed out that Hong Kong affairs, including the establishment and improvement of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s legal system and enforcement mechanism to safeguard national security, are purely China’s internal affairs, and China’s determination to promote Hong Kong-related national security legislation is unwavering. China resolutely opposes the words and deeds of the US side interfering in Hong Kong affairs and resolutely opposes the statement made by the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven on Hong Kong-related issues. China urges the US to respect China’s sovereignty, treat Hong Kong’s national security legislation objectively and fairly, and stop interfering in Hong Kong’s internal affairs in any form.

Regarding Xinjiang-related issues, Yang Jiechi pointed out that the Chinese government took anti-terrorism and de-extremification measures in Xinjiang according to law, which greatly reversed the security situation in Xinjiang and effectively guaranteed the rights of life, health and development of people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. China expresses strong dissatisfaction with the U.S. signing of the "Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act" and urges the U.S. to respect China's anti-terrorism efforts to maintain stability and de-extremism, stop engaging in double standards on counter-terrorism issues, and stop using Xinjiang-related issues to interfere in China's internal affairs.
