World Rugby launched its governance review on Wednesday, entrusted to Hugh Robertson, president of the British Olympic Committee and former sports minister.

The task force led by Roberston must propose ways to reform the governance of the body, a key point in the campaign of Bill Beaumont, re-elected president of world rugby in early May for a new four-year term.

"In our program, Bernard Laporte (editor's note: vice-president of World Rugby) and I have promised to undertake a reform of governance in order to guarantee that world rugby is reactive in its thinking and decision-making and that our structures more reflect the diversity and values ​​of our game, "said Beaumont, quoted in a World Rugby statement released on Wednesday.

"Rugby is a thriving global sport, with a spirit of inclusion, unity and diversity, and I am committed to ensuring that this is reflected in the reform process and in any recommendations made by the working group. work, "said Hugh Robertson.

In addition to the latter, the other two independent members of the task force are Peter Cosgrove, former Governor General of Australia, and Angela Ruggiero, former American ice hockey player and Olympic gold medalist. The working group also includes several leaders in world rugby, including Beaumont and Laporte themselves.

The launch of this working group comes as World Rugby is also trying to reorganize the international calendar, turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic, and that a decision must be taken in this direction on June 30.
