TUI France will cut 60% of its workforce, due to the effects of the health crisis. The French subsidiary of the German multinational, world leader in travel, announced this Wednesday during an extraordinary CSE. The social plan provides for the closure of the 65 integrated travel agencies in France and the Lyon site.

Read moreIn a statement, the management of the leading tourist operator in France plans the abolition of 317 positions, but in reality it is more. TUI France intends to franchise, sell or close its 65 branches and keep only its historic brands Marmara, Lookéa and Nouvelles Frontières. Its Passion des Îles subsidiary and its Lyon site will be closed.
A total of 583 positions are to disappear, or two-thirds of its workforce. The announcement of this social plan, which is part of the 8,000 jobs lost around the world, is a cold shower for employees who are on partial unemployment from mid-March to mid-September.
However, a few months ago the French subsidiary had reviewed its internal organization and launched a 3-year strategic transformation plan which provided for a return to breakeven in 2022. The 34 billion euros in losses announced were to be wiped out by the parent company, and the current accounting year showed a marked improvement in margins.
But the health crisis came to sweep everything. Management explains today that this difficult decision is the only solution for the company to go through the crisis.
