The World Health Organization praised a "scientific breakthrough", after British researchers announced that a drug from the steroid family has proven effective in saving the lives of Coronavirus "Covid-19" patients suffering from the most serious symptoms, amid new measures in China to combat the return of the virus after Two months after his disappearance.

"This is the first proven treatment that reduces mortality among Covid-19 patients who breathe with oxygen vials or artificial respirators," WHO Director General Tedros Adhanum Gebresos said in a statement.

New Chinese actions

Although many countries of the world have eased the restrictions imposed to combat corona, the Chinese authorities in the capital, Beijing, canceled more than a thousand flights, and ordered the closure of all schools in the escalation of preventive measures following a second outbreak of the Corona virus in the city.

The regional director of the World Health Organization in the Americas, Carissa Etienne, said on Tuesday that the region is fast approaching the registration of 4 million cases of coronavirus and that the pandemic continues to accelerate.

She added in an online press briefing from the Washington-based Pan American Health Organization that Brazil has 23% of the cases that exceeded 3 million and 800 thousand in the Americas, and also 23% of the deaths that amount to 204 thousand cases in the region.

In Europe, the Hungarian parliament approved yesterday the abolition of the emergency powers granted to the government to confront Corona, which has raised international concerns that the National Prime Minister Viktor Orban strengthened his hold on power.

Arab countries

In Sudan, the Ministry of Health announced nine new deaths and 305 new cases of coronavirus.

In Egypt, the Medical Syndicate announced the death of three new doctors who had been infected with the Corona virus.

Egypt - the largest Arab country in terms of population - has recorded more than 46,000 injuries and nearly 1,700 deaths, according to official figures. Thus, Egypt is the largest country affected by the epidemic in Africa.

Iraq recorded 60 deaths in Corona on Tuesday, and 1,385 injuries in a daily toll that is the highest in the country since the virus appeared in it.

While Somalia recorded 16 cases, Jordan monitored two cases with the virus and recovered one case, while Tunisia yesterday recorded 15 cases, bringing the total number of thousand and 125 cases, including 49 deaths and 1002 cases of recovery.

In Qatar, the Ministry of Health, in a statement, reported the registration of four deaths, 1,121 injuries, in addition to one thousand and 780 cases of recovery, bringing the total number of injuries to 82 thousand and 77, including 80 deaths, 60 thousand and 461 cases of recovery.

As for the Saudi Ministry of Health, yesterday it announced the registration of 4267 injuries and 41 new deaths, taking the total deaths from Corona to 1052, and injuries to 136,315 cases.

The Saudi Ministry pointed to the registration of 1650 cases of recovery, bringing the total number of those recovering in the Kingdom to 89,540.
