If Anne Hidalgo is re-elected as mayor of Paris in the second round of municipal elections on June 28, the speed limit will be increased to 30 km / hour in almost all the streets of Paris. A promise negotiated with the environmental allies of the outgoing mayor. Pedestrians, cyclists or motorists, voters will know what to expect.

More safety, less noise, less pollution

"In Paris it's just not possible! As soon as we pass the second, we are already above 30!", Reacts a motorist while an older lady abounds: "Do you realize? In Paris? But it would make traffic jams! " Another motorist is more mixed: "It is too slow 30 km / hour. But at the same time, somewhere, it is safety".

Safety is one of Anne Hidalgo's arguments. Its goal is to reduce the number of traffic fatalities, which stood at 34 last year. But also to reduce noise and pollution in the city by convincing Parisians, district by district. More than 50% of the streets of Paris have already passed 30 km / h, after neighborhood consultations.

For the rest of the capital, it could only take 18 months, according to Anne Hidalgo's environmental ally, David Belliard. "We respond to an aspiration that goes beyond us," he notes. "The people who live in this city today want us to offer them secure cycle paths, wider sidewalks for walking, a more peaceful city where they will be able to take their children to school without fear of being knocked over. by a car that goes too fast, "says David Belliard.

Only a few major axes would not decrease the speed of circulation, such as the Champs Elysées or the boulevards of the Maréchaux. The ring road, in turn, would pass from 70 to 50 km / hour.
