The gradual and voluntary return to classrooms in the Community of Madrid after the coronavirus pandemic is occurring at a lower rate than expected . Only three out of 10 primary school students who according to their schools would need a face-to-face reinforcement before the end of the course returned to sit at their desks last week after applying security measures such as social distance, as confirmed by the Ministry of Education.

This Tuesday, the preparation sessions for the Assessment for Access to University (EvAU) have also started in 2nd Baccalaureate, delayed until July 6, 7, 8 and 9. The Association of Institute Directors (Adimad) estimates that in the first session only 5% of the 37,000 students who will face it attended these extraordinary preparation classes for Selectivity .

After being closed for three months, Madrid's schools reopened last week due to the region's entry into Phase 2 of the confinement de-escalation. In the first six days of the so-called new normality in the Primary stage, a total of 47,801 students were summoned to receive face-to-face reinforcement lessons , which 16,607 attended.

As they point out in the Ministry of Education, the percentage of children in classrooms "has increased" over the days. On Monday, June 8, 6,108 were called, of which 1,819 attended, that is, 29.7%, while a week later, on June 15, 10,784 were expected and 3,840, 35.6%, were presented of the total.

The Community of Madrid asked the schools to draw up a list of the students who have had problems during confinement in order to follow the online classes normally, either due to a lack of adequate technological means or due to the pedagogical system itself. The objective, says a regional government spokesman, is to offer them reinforcement classes so that they can "match their training with that of other colleagues . "

In the case of 2nd Baccalaureate, the resumption of the course is focused on all the students who are going to present themselves to the EvAU regardless of their academic performance. In this case, instructions have been sent to all centers with the prevention and hygiene measures issued by the Ministry of Health for the partial reopening of the centers, which include instructions and recommendations such as avoiding crowds and ruling out group activities or events inside buildings.

Cleaning and disinfection

Regarding hygiene, both schools and institutes have had to place disinfectant gel dispensers in all classes that do not have a handwashing basin with soap and water and to clean and disinfect the facilities at least one once a day, reinforcing it in those spaces that need it, they need in Education. In particular, special attention must be paid to common use areas and the most frequent contact surfaces, such as door knobs, tables, furniture, handrails, floors, telephones and hangers.

In addition, the heads of the centers must ensure the availability of soap and hand-drying paper and that the use of paper documents and their circulation is limited as much as possible . In addition, handkerchiefs used by staff and students should be disposed of in trash cans with bags or containers protected with a lid and, if possible, operated by pedal, which should be cleaned frequently.
