A man was tried on Tuesday in the court of Thionville, in Moselle, for facts going back to October 2019. That day, this Monneren resident had posted on Facebook two insulting comments against the mayor of the neighboring village of Kédange- on-Canner, reports Le Républicain Lorrain .

The elected official, Jean Kieffer, had filed a complaint for public insult. Before the court, the accused was unable to explain these acts. "I am nostalgic for my village, my father still lives there," he said simply, according to the regional daily.

He was sentenced to a suspended fine of 150 euros. He will also have to pay 75 euros to the mayor and pay court costs, up to 300 euros.
