The government wants to extend the state of health emergency in Guyana and Mayotte until "October 30 inclusive" due to the active circulation of the coronavirus, according to a government amendment, examined Wednesday, June 17 in the National Assembly.

"The departments of Guyana and Mayotte present to date more degraded health situations, which could require the enactment of more restrictive administrative measures after July 10", indicates this amendment to the bill leaving the state of emergency in France.

In Guyana, the number of Covid-19 cases continues to increase

Guyana is experiencing an explosion of cases which led to the postponement of the second round of municipal elections scheduled for June 28 for the rest of the country. On Tuesday, there were 1,421 people tested positive (+95 cases in 24 hours), 13 patients in intensive care, 72 hospitalizations and 5 deaths (+2). The number of positive cases doubled in eight days.

Guyana moved on to stage 3 of the epidemic on Monday and the Regional Health Agency alerted on an "influx of patients" to come and asked for additional staff, despite the reinforcement of the health reserve.

The progression of the epidemic marks time in Mayotte

In Mayotte, the cases are more numerous (2 333 positive cases on Tuesday, 42 hospitalizations including 13 in intensive care, and 29 deaths), but the progression seems to mark time (+13 cases in 24 hours) and the second round of the municipal must always take place at the end of June. The Indian Ocean island had moved to stage 3 on April 30. Now "the epidemic peak would have been exceeded," said Minister of Overseas Annick Girardin to the Assembly.

The deputies examine Wednesday a bill organizing for the rest of France the exit of the state of medical emergency on July 10, with a transitional period until the fall during which restrictions will remain possible. The oppositions are alarmed by a state of emergency "which does not say its name".

Concerning Guyana and Mayotte, the government amendment specifies that the state of emergency could end before the end of October if the situation improves, by decree taken in the Council of Ministers after scientific advice.
