Apoidea is the Latin family name for bees. It is also the title of the exhibition that Eksjö Museum has in full swing right now.

- Human beings have always been fascinated by bees because the bees are so central to human survival, says Pia Löfgren, museum director in Eksjö municipality.

The first thing that catches the visitor's eye is Anders Knutsson's colorful paintings and it is only up close that you discover how the living artworks are.

- He uses beeswax in the paint and the material in his artwork is more physical. The more you study the artwork, the more you can interpret.

Bina's survival was threatened

Other artists in the exhibition are Anx Kupiainen, Håkan Rehnberg, Erik Sjödin, Ulrika Sparre and Cecilia Edefalk.

Today, the bees' survival is threatened, mainly because of various toxic pesticides and environmental changes.

- The exhibition is like a cry for help. There is a great risk that the bees may die out and we hope that the exhibition will be able to broaden the perspective of our surroundings and increase knowledge about the importance of bees to the environment, says Pia Löfgren, museum director.
