Three people have been indicted ten months after the double assassination in a hotel room of two men "linked to the narco-banditism of Marseilles", including an alleged drug kingpin, Farid Tir, announced the parquet floor of Marseille.

The two victims were killed on August 30, 2019 "while they were sleeping in a hotel room in the commercial area of Plan de Campagne, fatally wounded by a dozen rounds of war weapons," said the press release.

One of the two victims, Farid Tir, had been released from prison less than a year after spending seven years behind bars for drug trafficking. Several members of his family had already been killed in settling of accounts or are considered to be involved in the fight for traffic control in cities of Marseille.

Drug trafficking

According to the prosecution after these crimes, "the investigators had followed the track of a settlement of accounts implicating relatives of the victim, in a context of drug trafficking".

"In view of the personality of the victim, this classification was beyond doubt," commented a source familiar with the matter on Tuesday, for whom specialized investigators from the Marseilles judicial police have thus resolved a "fine case".

The three men had been arrested by the Marseille anti-crime brigade for driving offenses while driving a sports car, two weeks after the double assassination.

Well known to justice

They had an assault rifle on board, and threw a satchel containing "several thousand euros" while trying to escape. They were already "well known to the justice system, particularly for drug trafficking and the association of criminals". One of them, already suspected of the double assassination, was a "close friend" of one of the victims.

They were imprisoned, but it was ten months after the investigators of the criminal brigade, within the framework of an instruction entrusted to the specialized interregional jurisdiction (JIRS) of Marseille, could confuse them for the double assassination, according to the parquet.

Extracted from their remand center on June 8, they spent four days in police custody before being “put on trial for the counts of murder and association of criminals in an organized gang and imprisoned”.
