This clustered infection occurred in a residential block in Neukeln district. The block was isolated on the 13th. The head of the district health department Like said on the 16th that according to the estimation of the authorities, each of the aforementioned isolated families can have up to ten people. He did not provide the exact total number of quarantined families that day.

At present, how to successfully implement home isolation for the above residents has become a major challenge facing the authorities. The New Koeln District Government said on the same day that most of the 57 diagnosed patients, except for one priest who was severely ill, had only mild symptoms. As of now, the chain of infection for this clustered infection has not yet been clarified.

On the same day, the basic infection number R0 value published by the Berlin City Ministry of Health was 1.49, which had been above 1.1 for three consecutive days, triggering a "yellow" alarm. If it stays above 1.2 for three consecutive days, it will further trigger a "red" alarm.

The German Federal Institute for Disease Control Robert Koch Institute explained that if the R0 value is greater than 1, it means that each person infected can infect more than one person on average without intervention. The agency has repeatedly emphasized that the R0 value must be kept below 1 in order to ease the epidemic. The agency reminded that a rebound in the R0 value indicates that it is necessary to maintain a high degree of attention to the trend of the epidemic in the next few days.
