  • An oyster drive opened on the water, in the port of Grau-du-Roi.
  • Recreational boaters can remove their trash without leaving their boats.
  • It can also be accessed by land, for those who are not at sea.

"And a basket for the Vagabond!" A drive like no other has just opened in the port of Grau-du-Roi, a seaside resort in the Gard. We don't come here to take burgers or nuggets, but oysters. And the choppers who are busy opening them do not serve motorists, but many boaters, who moor their boats for a few seconds at this amazing floating bar, just long enough to be served.

It was the four-star hotel Le Spinaker, nestled by the water, which launched this concept which is a delight for regulars at marinas. "Boaters can stop at the drive, but we can also deliver boaters, by boat," says Patrick Thierry, the hotel owner. "You can for example take a platter of oysters before going to sea, without leaving the boat," says Nicolas Denis, one of the bar's peelers. Those who wish can also moor their boat at the pontoon, to taste their trays at the bar. And those who do not necessarily have sea legs are not excluded: you can access the bar by land, from a pontoon.

"Drink an aperitif before going to sea"

"The bar is built entirely of reinforced concrete, it is a concrete slab that floats on the water," explains the hotel manager. It is thus unlikely, on this most stable structure, that a client is subject to seasickness, assures Patrick Thierry. "It's very stable, we could even build a small house on it!" ", He notes.

“The idea is really great, rejoices Norbert, the co-manager of a company of equipment for boats, in Port-Camargue. You can come by boat, or even have an aperitif with friends, before going to sea! The Camargue dolce vita, in a way.
