The investigation lasted almost two years. A medic suspected of killing eight elderly people between 2017 and 2019 in a retirement home in central Italy has been arrested, Italian news agencies announced on Monday. The prosecutor's office of Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region, had launched an investigation in September 2018 after around twenty "abnormal" deaths in the establishment.

Massive doses of medication

The investigators, who seized numerous medical files, traced this nurse suspected first of all, of being responsible for two deaths and of having stolen medical equipment. After numerous medical analyzes, the prosecution finally ordered his arrest, suspecting him of having killed six more people and trying to kill four more.

The 57-year-old man, whose name has not been made public, is said to have injected massive doses of medication between January 2017 and February 2019 to his victims, causing their deaths.
