According to reports, the United Kingdom and Europe acknowledged in a joint statement issued after the meeting that the four rounds of negotiations held by the two sides so far have reached an impasse. But they added that for the benefit of citizens of both sides, they must move forward.
The negotiating team of both parties will accelerate the negotiation process in July and strive to "create the most favorable conditions for the completion and approval of an agreement by the end of this year."
Johnson said after the meeting that despite the deadlock in the negotiations, he was still optimistic. "What we need to achieve is very clear. I don’t think our differences are big, but what we need is to put a little force into the negotiations.
