Large means were deployed, Monday evening, in the bay of Aigues-Mortes (Gard) to try to find a kitesurfer, that the maritime authorities thought disappeared at sea.

A few minutes earlier, the Espiguette semaphore, in Grau-du-Roi, had signaled to the rescue the presence of a kitesurfing wing adrift, off the Mediterranean, learned 20 Minutes this Tuesday morning from the maritime prefecture.

A Civil Security helicopter, a boat from the French Navy and the Gard and Hérault firefighters were deployed to try to trace this kitesurfer. The search was finally stopped at 11 p.m., when the emergency services received information that the man was safe. He had returned home.

According to the maritime prefecture, the man would have released his sail, would have returned by his own means and would then have published a message on a specialized forum, telling his misadventure. Internet users then allegedly invited him to contact the Cross (Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue), which he did.

The prefecture of the Mediterranean invites kitesurf enthusiasts to take to the sea without overestimating their skills, having read the weather conditions, and systematically warning their loved ones. In the event of an incident, kitesurfers can contact the Cross, in particular by mobile phone, at 196.
