In the midst of the pitched battle south of the Thames, with police trying to build a wall between statues "defenders" and anti-racism protesters, there was a flash of light from those who are immortalized in one image. There we have Patrick Hutchinson , a burly black fitness trainer who attended the 'Black Lives Matter' protests and ended up shouldering an unknown target who was badly injured during the fighting.

"I don't know anything about that man," explained Hutchinson himself, becoming little less than the new British hero, speaking to Channel 4. "I think he was drunk and partially unconscious. It was a dreadful moment, but you don't think about it when it's happening, you just think about what you should do. "

"We have saved a life," Hutchinson said, without needing to elaborate on the lynching the white man, in his early fifties, was undergoing when he decided to step in and rescue him from the enraged mass . Pushing his way through his own, firmly but with fear written on his face, Hutchinson stumbled to the wounded man in the midst of a stampede.

"When I was carrying him on my shoulders, there were people who were still trying to hit him," he recalls. "My friends protected us and I managed to get him to where the police were." "Here you go," I told them. "One of them thanked me."

Hutchinson was part of a group of martial arts experts who volunteered "to try to stay calm," amid expected tensions between Black Lives Matter protesters and far-right groups that had called for acts of defense of the statues. Clashes in Parliament Square, Trafalgar Square and Southbank resulted in 113 detainees and dozens of injuries (including 25 police officers). Given the violent nature of the protests, Scotland Yard has called for a ban on further protests.

"It is not a question of whites against blacks, but of all against racists," said Patrick Hutchinson. "If the other three policemen who saw George Floyd killed, had thought of intervening and arresting his partner, he would surely still be alive."

"What I want is equality for all," sentenced the physical trainer. "Right now, the balance is out of balance. What I want is a fairer world for my children and grandchildren."

Hutchinson was praised as "a national hero" by Rep. Claudia Webbe. David Lammy, also a Labor member, contributed to viralize his feat: "It is easy to focus on the worst instincts of human behavior. But it is vital that we also celebrate the best."
