Human remains found near a house in Idaho, in the northwest of the United States, are those of two children who have been missing for nine months, local police said, who arrested their father-in-law, owner of the House. Tylee Ryan, a 17-year-old girl, and Joshua "JJ" Vallow, a 7-year-old boy with autism, were last seen in September and their concerned grandparents reported their disappearance two months later.

Meanwhile, their mother, Lori Vallow, a follower of esoteric cults, had left the city of Rexburg with her companion, Chad Daybell. The couple moved to Hawaii, where they married. "It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that these remains have been officially identified as those of JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan," said Rexburg police on Saturday.

Man and woman detained

The remains were unearthed on Tuesday during a search of Chad Daybell's property. The man was taken into custody on charges of destroying evidence. Lori Vallow has also been in detention since his extradition from Hawaii in February. She is charged with abandonment of children, making false statements to the police and contempt of court.

The investigation into the disappearance of the children took a gruesome turn when the police noted a series of deaths in the entourage of Lori Vallow and her new husband, author of esoteric books in which he recounts his experiences of "imminent death" and his contacts with the afterlife. JJ Vallow's third husband Joseph Ryan, father of Tylee, died in 2018, apparently of a heart attack.

They had an obligation to present them

In July 2019, her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, with whom she was going through a divorce, was killed by Lori's brother, Alex Cox, who said he acted in self-defense. He himself died in December after being found unconscious at his home. In his divorce petition, Charles Vallow indicated that his wife, with whom he then lived in Arizona, said that he was invested by God with the mission of preparing the Apocalypse, scheduled for July 2020.

On October 19, Chad Daybell's wife died at 49 of so-called "natural" causes. Two weeks later, Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell left Idaho for Hawaii. Idaho justice ordered the couple to present the children on January 30. It is because this order was not respected that Lori Vallow was arrested and brought back to the state. Her husband was briefly incarcerated and then released.
