Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau and its garlands made by the locals, in Nantes. - F.Brenon / 20Minutes

The rainy weather made the novelty less spectacular. Four streets in downtown Nantes have become pedestrianized since last weekend by decision of the town hall. The streets Léon-Jamin, Léon-Blum and du Marais (between the cours des 50-Otages and rue Armand Brossard) are thus closed to cars until August 30, 24 hours a day. Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, very commercial , is also pedestrian every day from 11:30 am to 1:30 am. It could even remain so until the end of September.

The objective is to encourage cycling trips by reducing the traffic cost. The aim is also to allow bars and restaurants to further extend their terraces, in complete safety.

Other streets in the hyper city center will imitate them from June 27: Armand-Brossard, Saint-Léonard, Cheval-Blanc, Fénelon and Grande-Biesse streets will be reserved for pedestrians 24 hours a day until August 30. . Same change for Maréchal-Joffre and Lebrun streets from 7 p.m. until 1:30 a.m. Local development will also be carried out during the summer.
