  • Coronavirus. France will emerge from the state of health emergency on July 10 but will maintain restrictions for several months

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, announced today that the country's schools should prepare to receive from next June 22 "all students on a compulsory basis and in normal conditions" until the end of the course.

In a speech to the nation, Macron said that tomorrow, Monday, France "turns the page of the first act" of the fight against the coronavirus, and that this requires speeding up the return to normality and reviving the economy.

Therefore, the president announced that from tomorrow they will also open normally bars and restaurants in the Paris region - until now only terraces could do so - and visits to nursing homes will be authorized again.

As of tomorrow, the whole of the metropolitan territory of France will be in the "green zone", which in fact implies a sharp acceleration of the de-escalation , which began on May 11.

"Nurseries and schools will prepare to welcome all students from June 22 on a mandatory basis and according to the rules of normal presence," said the French president.

Macron recalled that the French will be able to move freely through the European Union as of tomorrow and outside European territory, wherever sanitary conditions allow it, from July 1.

He also confirmed that the second round of the municipal elections will be held, as scheduled, on June 28.

He made special emphasis on the strong economic crisis that is plaguing the country, which will lead to "a large number of bankruptcies and social plans", so the priority must necessarily be to avoid layoffs.

Regarding economic reconstruction, he called for starting to create "the jobs of tomorrow" in the ecological transition, and he promised not to pay the expenses derived from the health crisis with a tax increase.

According to the latest official count, released yesterday, Saturday, France recorded 24 deaths from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 29,398.

In hospitals, the number of seriously ill patients admitted to intensive care units fell to 871, eight fewer cases than on day 12, compared to the 7,000 patients who saturated them in April, during the peak of the crisis.
