It has now been almost four months since Rennes airport has seen a commercial aircraft on its tarmac. The closure of the platform in March was planned due to the repair work carried out on the main runway. Since then, the coronavirus crisis has turned the entire calendar upside down. This Monday, the airport will emerge from its torpor with the resumption of the Air France link to Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport at the rate of three flights per week.

The reopening of this line is not to the taste of several environmental collectives who are calling for a rally this Monday near the equipment. "Knowing that an TGV alternative exists, this recovery goes against an energy and environmental transition approach," protests the association Alternatiba Rennes.

EasyJet and Volotea to resume flights in early July

In mid-May, environmental candidate Matthieu Theurier, whose list has since merged with that of outgoing mayor Nathalie Appéré, also criticized the reopening of this Rennes-Lyon line. "The development of the economy can no longer be done to the detriment of our environment and therefore our future," he said, demanding the closure of the link.

After Air France, other airlines have announced the resumption of their activity on the Rennes tarmac. From July 2, EasyJet will have flights to Lyon, Nice and Geneva. The next day, the Spanish low cost company Volotea will be back with flights to Corsica (Ajaccio, Bastia and Figari), Biarritz and Marseille.
