They were more than 20,000 demonstrators according to the organizers, 8,000 according to the police, linked to each other by colored strips green, blue or orange for a more united society. The human chain organized this Sunday in Berlin extended over 9 km, from the Brandenburg Gate to the popular district of Neuköln via the TV tower of Alexander Platz.

The demonstrators, among whom were elected officials and artists, were all equipped with a mask and respected a distance of 3 meters. An order service dispatched by the organizers monitored compliance with health rules, reports our correspondent in Berlin, Nathalie Versieux .

The Unteilbar (“Indivisible”) movement, which was behind this event, was inspired by Black Lives Matter and Friday for Future, but also worried about the social consequences of the health crisis. For the movement, it is a question of putting pressure on the authorities when it is decided who will benefit from state aid and who will remain on the floor while Germany will be faced in the coming months with the worst crisis in its history since the Second World War.

Similar protests have taken place across the country, including in Leipzig and Hamburg.
