This Sunday, 13 migrants were rescued at sea, 25 m from Sangatte beach, in Pas-de-Calais. For several months, attempts to cross the Strait of Pas-de-Calais by migrants have multiplied. If many fail, especially due to mechanical problems, there are few that end as close to the starting point.

The alert was launched around 3:30 am this Sunday. A border police patrol (PAF) of Coquelles noticed a boat in difficulty when it had just taken to sea. The boat with 13 people on board, was broken down only 25 m off the Salines beach, in Sangatte.

Rescued by the maritime gendarmerie

The maritime prefecture was immediately notified of the situation, and the maritime operations center (COM) immediately mobilized the coastal surveillance boat from the maritime gendarmerie, based in Dunkirk.

At 4.15 a.m., the gendarmes joined the migrants' boat, which were transferred to the surveillance speedboat. Safe and sound, they were landed an hour later at the port of Calais and handed over to PAF agents.
