The World Health Organization (WHO) said the Americas bear the brunt of the current epidemic of the Coronavirus, globally, with North and South America having four of the ten most affected by the pandemic.

WHO's chief emergency expert Mike Ryan said the current situation in Brazil - one of the hotspots of the virus - is of growing concern, especially in densely populated cities, but Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro questioned the mechanism of counting HIV deaths.

These statements coincide with the signing by Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands of an agreement with the "AstraZeneca" group of drugs to ensure the European Union gets 300 million doses of a possible future vaccine against the virus, the German government announced on Saturday.

The German Ministry of Health stated that the agreement signed between the four countries and the group that was established in 1999 as a result of the merger of the Swedish companies "Astra" and "Zenica" Britain, stipulates that all member states of the European Union provide doses of a vaccine against Corona upon reaching it.

The Corona virus, emerging from its outbreak in Wuhan, China, last December, claimed the lives of more than 427,000 people worldwide, according to a census conducted by the French news agency, according to official sources.

It has also recorded more than 7.7 million infections in 196 countries and regions since the outbreak began, especially in the United States and Latin America.

As of Saturday, the total number of people infected with the Coronavirus in the United States reached more than 2.3 million, of whom more than 114,000 died, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On the other hand, Russia on Saturday raised the official death toll from the Corona virus last April by more than double, declaring 2712 deaths after modifications were made to the method of calculating deaths.

Russian officials have warned that the death toll in May may be worse in Russia, the third affected country in the world in terms of the number of injuries by more than 520 thousand cases.

New foci

In Italy, two new epidemics of Corona virus appeared in the last days in Rome, one in a hospital and the other in a building where a stone was placed, which raised concerns of the health authorities.

In the two new outposts there are more than a hundred infected people, five deaths recorded among them, according to health authorities announced in the Latium region, which includes the Italian capital.

In France, on Saturday, 24 new deaths were recorded in the virus within 24 hours, bringing the total deaths to about 29.4 thousand, and the number of new deaths remains below the 30 death mark for the fourth consecutive day.

The government stated that the number of people living with HIV in hospital had fallen by 215 to 10.9 thousand. The number of patients in intensive care units also decreased by eight to 871, to continue to decrease over several weeks.

In China, the Chinese authorities imposed on Saturday, isolation emergency neighborhoods in the capital Beijing after the emergence of a new focus of the virus.

The announcement of the ban in 11 neighborhoods in the Chinese capital, after recording new infections with the Coruna virus, raised fears of a second wave spreading.

The authorities also closed down a vegetable market, and postponed the return of primary school students to their schools, after the injuries first appeared about two months ago.

The Chinese authorities have said that more than 10,000 people in the market will be tested for HIV infection.
