June 14, 2020 China has reported 57 new cases of Covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours, including 36 in Beijing. This is the highest increase since April and fears of the return of the pandemic to the country where it originated in late 2019 increases. The new 36 cases in Beijing represent the highest number recorded in a single day in the Chinese capital since the beginning of the epidemic, all connected to the Xinfadi wholesale market in the district of Fengtai, closed yesterday by the health authorities.Fearing a new wave, sporting events in the capital and inter-provincial travel were banned, and entire residential complexes near the Xinfadi market were closed. Beijing Health Commission spokesman Gao Xiaojun confirmed that all residents near the Xinfadi market will be tested.
