Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has sparked controversy after asking his citizens to videotap hospitals to verify their fullness at the height of the outbreak of the new Corona virus.

"It will be a good thing going to the hospitals near you, and you have to find a way to film it," Bolsonaro said in his direct weekly speech via Facebook on Thursday evening.

He added, "Many people do this already, but we need more to know whether the beds are occupied or empty."

"As far as I know, I might be wrong," the president stressed, "virtually no person died due to a lack of breathing apparatus or intensive care beds."

"If Bolsonaro was at the level of his position, he would have known that he did not need to send people to invade hospitals, if he wanted to visit hospitals, then I would guide him myself," Maravao Governor Flavio Dino wrote in a tweet. For his part, MP Paulo Fernando said, "When Bolsonaro asks his supporters to invade hospitals to photograph the beds, he endangers lives with impunity."
