The National Police has arrested a 54-year-old man, identified as MMA, for his alleged participation in a hate crime by publishing through his public profile of a well-known social network comments "threatening to death political leaders of two parties at the national level "and coming to personalize these threats against specific leaders.

Once arrested, the man has acknowledged to the agents that he was the author of the events, according to a statement from the National Police, which indicates that this investigation was initiated thanks to information provided by the Local Police in this city.

The arrest was carried out last Tuesday and the agents were aware of the various publications made by the arrested person through a well-known social network, where he spread messages of hatred and threats to the leaders of national political parties for ideological reasons.

Once identified and located, the agents have detained him and he has acknowledged being the author of the facts before the Police. The investigation and the attestation carried out by the agents who are members of the Provincial Information Brigade have been submitted to the Court of Instruction of the Guard of Seville.

The National Police has explained that the terminology "hate crimes" has been coined to define a category of behaviors that present as a significant and common factor the presence of a motivating element, hatred and discrimination.

Hate crimes are those incidents that are directed against a person motivated by a prejudice based on: disability, race, ethnic origin or country of origin, religion or beliefs, sexual orientation and identity, the situation of social exclusion and any other circumstance or social or personal condition.

Anyone can be a victim of a hate crime, regardless of whether they belong to the group to which hostility or prejudice is directed and these actions can be carried out against people or property.

In those cases in which a person may have been a victim or knew of the existence of a "hate crime", the National Police recommends reporting the incident as soon as possible.

In addition, it has recommended that an identity document be carried that accredits personal data, that detailed information be provided on the facts suffered or witnessed, as well as the author / s of the act, place or eyewitnesses, among others.

Other suggestions of the National Police are to request an interpreter if the language is not understood or if the person expresses himself through sign language. After the incident, if the report is not going to be made immediately, it is recommended "that you write down or record all the information about it" because this will allow, when recording the facts in the report, "that all the ends in as much detail and accuracy as possible.
