June 13, 2020 There are over 300 thousand, to be precise 308,993, the confirmed cases of Covid-19 in India since the beginning of the health emergency. The New Delhi Ministry of Health announced this, giving news of another 11,458 infections in the last 24 hours, the highest figure ever recorded in the Asian country in a single day. 386 more died than yesterday, for a total of 8,884. It is the second time in a row that more than ten thousand infections have occurred in India in one day. India thus ranks fourth in the number of confirmed cases in the map developed by Johns Hopkins University.

The volume of infections in India jumped by about 100 thousand in a week, coinciding with the reopening of shopping centers, places of worship and restaurants. The government imposed the national lockdown in late March. In the capital, New Delhi, most of the public hospitals are full, crematoriums and cemeteries are struggling with mortal remains. The New Delhi government has predicted that cases in the capital area alone could expand to over half a million by the end of July, and is considering using luxury hotels and stadiums to convert them to field hospitals.

The confirmed cases in the most affected western state of Maharashtra have risen to over 100,000 and the national capital of New Delhi, where the health system is also in crisis, has seen over 2,000 new cases. Despite the growing case load, the cure rate of patients was improving, with over 147,000 people healed, the federal government said on Friday.
