Kibitzenau swimming pool in Strasbourg on June 11, 2020. - G. Varela / 20 Minutes

  • Four swimming pools in the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg, closed since the start of containment, reopened to the public on June 15. These are the Kibitzenau, Wacken, Hautepierre and Schiltigheim pools
  • A reopening made possible according to a “special Covid organization plan”.
  • Access remains limited to 100 people at the same time until July 1 and by reservation at noon.
  • The water bodies will open later, most of them on July 1.

It smells like the holidays… After months of confinement, did you dream of taking a dip in the swimming pool or in a body of water in the agglomeration? Well, it will soon be possible. The Eurometropolis announces a gradual reopening of swimming pools according to a "special Covid organization plan". Only four of the eight swimming pools in the agglomeration will reopen. Good news all the same with the arrival of sunny days and for bathing staff.

The date of June 15 is advanced for four Strasbourg swimming pools. A gradual reopening because the barrier gestures remain in force and we will have to show white legs before going to wade. This will be the means to test the precautionary measures and to control the epidemic, ensures the management of the pools.

For those worried, know that the ventilation is reinforced and the water treatment filters frequently purged. The wearing of the mask is compulsory up to the changing rooms, hydroalcoholic gel available and condemned food distributors. In the locker room, the collectives are closed, the hairdryers will no longer be accessible, part of the lockers and one shower in two are condemned and the contact points regularly cleaned, reassures Sébastien Grosse, the manager of the agglomeration's swimming pools.

Limited attendance

It is for these reasons that only large swimming pools open first because they offer more space. These are the Kibitzenau, Wacken, Hautepierre and Schiltigheim swimming pools. For the others, it will be necessary to wait. It will depend on health developments, the return of the 20 swimming pools in France which have already reopened to test the health protocols in place, the number of trained and available bathing supervisors but also ... government guidelines.

If there is space, entry will initially be limited to 100 people at the same time (200 at Wacken) until July 1. But a next assessment will be carried out and the reception capacities could be reviewed. On the other hand, if access is free until 11:30 a.m., you will need to book online or by telephone a time slot per range of 2 to 3 hours from noon. Between the slots, the pool will be closed for 30 minutes to welcome new swimmers and disinfect the contact points.

The water bodies

Attendance which will be followed closely all the more as the opening of the Kehl and Auenheim swimming pools in Germany, very popular with Strasbourg residents, would remain closed, probably until July 1. A lack of coordination with Kehl regretted by the president of the Eurometropolis, Robert Herrmann. The latter points to “disastrous management” on the border. "Nothing is coordinated with Kehl's pools, so what is going to happen? “, Worries the elected official who already fears the rush of the Strasbourg people on the agglomeration pools.

Our file on deconfinement

For those who prefer to bathe in the fresh air in untreated water, the green spaces and the beaches of the four bodies of water of the agglomeration are accessible since June 2, as for the parks and gardens. However, to swim there, you will have to wait until July 1, except at the Neublitz (Reichstett) lake. The latter will open its swimming pool on June 20, but under certain very restrictive conditions. The community explains that it is difficult to secure and regulate the flow of people on these large sites, and to have enough bathing supervisors. Still a little patience to take a dip in fresh water, time to lose the few pounds that may have been gained during confinement and to return to his beautiful jersey…
