June 12, 2020They caught the thieves on their farm in the Foggiano area and put them on the run, chasing them outside and ramming their off-road vehicle and then attacking them violently and exploding numerous rifle and pistol shots, injuring one of the criminals in the foot. For this reason, four men from Ascoli Satriano were placed under house arrest on charges of serious personal injury, exacerbated by the use of weapons and by the fact that several people were brought together, and the possession and illegal port of firearms. They are two brothers, farm entrepreneurs, aged 52 and 49; and the children of the 49 year old, two young people aged 25 and 23.
According to the findings of the investigations, conducted by police and carabinieri, the entrepreneurs had suffered other thefts in the past and for this reason they had organized themselves with armed patrols. On the night of last March 19 thieves climbed over the company's boundary wall and when they saw the armed men fled but were chased.
The following day the military found a car and a crane wagon near the farm, the latter stolen from Lucera, used by the criminals to carry out the attempted theft. On the vehicles were the marks of the shots and traces of blood. The police also found that the suspects had hidden both the frequency jammer used by thieves and the off-road vehicle used to ram the criminals. Those arrested tried to recover and hide all the exploded cartridges and deleted the videos of their company's video surveillance system.
