June 12, 2020 A new meeting between the Italian and Egyptian magistrates will take place in the coming weeks, before the summer break, to take stock of the investigations relating to the story of Giulio Regeni, the Friulian researcher kidnapped, tortured and killed between the end of January and l beginning of February 2016 in Cairo. The meeting will take place via videoconference due to the emergency related to the coronavirus.

At the center of the meeting was also the letter rogatory sent by the Rome prosecutors with which the Cairo judicial authority was asked for confirmations regarding the presence in Nairobi, in August 2017, of one of the five suspects in Rome, Major Sharif, which according to a witness would have told of the "modalities of Giulio's kidnapping" during a lunch. The prosecutors also urged Egyptian counterparts to elect the suspects (all belonging to the security apparatuses) at home and finally data on telephone records.
