“On June 12, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated President Vladimir Putin on Russia Day and praised his contribution to strengthening the special and privileged strategic partnership between the two countries,” the diplomatic mission said.

Modi noted that "the long friendship between the two countries continues, from year to year receiving a new impetus and additional depth, based on mutual trust and taking into account each other's interests."

The Indian prime minister "also said that he looked forward to working with Vladimir Putin to further deepen and expand the Indian-Russian partnership, including the current global health crisis."

Earlier, the US ambassador to Moscow, John Sullivan, on behalf of the American leader Donald Trump, congratulated the Russians on Russia Day.
