  • Theft love, hugs and kisses to steal jewelry: this is the robbery that Álvarez del Manzano suffered

Agents from the Fuencarral National Police station have arrested a 19-year-old woman as the alleged perpetrator of the robbery suffered by former Madrid Mayor José María Álvarez del Manzano this Thursday, as reported by the Superior Police Headquarters.

The events took place this Thursday morning at the confluence of Torrebeleña and Navaluenga streets, in the Fuentelareyna neighborhood, in the Madrid district of Fuencarral-El Pardo.

The former Madrid councilman was walking when he was stopped by a woman of Romanian nationality, who asked him if there was a parish nearby where they could attend him and in gratitude grabbed him with both hands with the intention of stealing his watch, thus using known as 'loving theft'. But Álvarez del Manzano noticed and resisted, so he struggled and fell to the ground. The author of the theft ended up fleeing the place.

After a warning from a witness of what happened, they went to the Samur-Civil Protection health area, which attended him quickly, although the former councilman told them that the fall was nothing, that it only involved a small injury to his hand and that She wanted to go home, said a spokeswoman for Emergencias Madrid.

Minutes later, garbage collection employees passing through the area found the mayor's watch near the scene. The agents of the Fuencarral police station took over the investigation into the events that culminated in this arrest.

José María Álvarez del Manzano, 82, who was mayor of the capital between 1991 and 2003, assured this Thursday that he was "perfectly" and that the incident had not been anything serious.

Specifically, he recalled that the woman began to be very grateful and began to shake his hands insistently, a situation that seemed "a little strange" and then realize that she was trying to pull her watch to remove it.

Noticing the attempted theft, the former mayor reported that it was he who threw "on top of her" and "ripped out a fanny pack" and kept the watch. "I have stolen from her instead of her from me," he said jokingly.

Álvarez del Manzano also detailed that the woman was preparing to get into a vehicle that was waiting for him parked at the place but just at that moment a garbage truck has passed that has stopped. Consequently, the car "has run away and the woman has, too."
