Michèle Rubirola in front of the town hall of Marseille - Alain ROBERT / SIPA

He believes that the left candidate Michèle Rubirola is "able to blow up the lid" to win the town hall held for 25 years by the right. The ecological mayor of Grenoble, Eric Piolle, was visiting Marseille on Thursday. A gesture towards the environmental candidate of Printemps Marseille, a broad union of the left also joined by the Greens (EELV) in the second round, which created surprise by arriving in the lead in the first round.

It obtained 23.44% of the votes, just ahead of Martine Vassal (LR), the president of the metropolis and of the department of Bouches-du-Rhône and "heiress" of the outgoing mayor Les Républicains (LR) Jean-Claude Gaudin (22 , 3%). In her campaign, Martine Vassal depicts the lists of her rival as an “ultra-left” who will “make Marseille a port for welcoming migrants” or ruin the city.

Eric Piolle denounces “false speeches”

"These are the same speeches we had in front of us in 2014 (during the municipal elections in Grenoble), as if the Russian tanks were at the gates of Marseille", mocked Eric Piolle during a press conference with Michèle Rubirola .

He dismissed the "false speeches (...) which said" everything is going to collapse ": today Grenoble is the third employment area with the lowest unemployment rate in France! The mayor of Grenoble, with a comfortable score at the end of the first round (46.68% of the vote), assured having reduced pollution "by 30%" in five years in his city.
