• Interior: Fear in the Civil Guard that the Government will demilitarize them

The demilitarization of the Civil Guard generates another focus of internal division within the Government. From the Podemos ranks, representatives in the Executive have raised their voices, in the midst of the open crisis in that Body, to advance in the exit of the military structures. But from the Government, the areas responsible for the management of the Civil Guard have completely removed the possibility of this debate being opened in the Council of Ministers and have slammed the door on Pablo Iglesias and Alberto Garzón.

This morning it was the head of Defense, Margarita Robles, who has tried to close the controversy and scare clouds.

Robles says that he respects but does not share the words of his cabinet colleagues Pablo Iglesias and Alberto Garzón about the Civil Guard, whose "military character is not in dispute" within the coalition Executive. Iglesias and Garzón have been in favor of opening the process of demilitarizing the Civil Guard.

In an interview on Antena 3, Robles defended the professionalism of the agents of the Armed Institute and pointed out that the civil guards "do not deserve that for political reasons" they are in "a debate that does not interest the majority of citizens" .

Yesterday, from the other Department on which falls the responsibility of the Civil Guard, the Ministry of the Interior, the door was also closed to any discussion about demilitarizing the Corps. From the Department of Grande Marlaska, it was ensured that regarding processes involving demilitarization, the Department's criteria are the same as those expressed in parliamentary headquarters. Therefore, there is no plan in this regard, clarified from Interior.
