For the next twelve months, the Gotland index shows minus 96 on a scale ranging from minus 300 to plus 300. That is the most pessimistic figure in the entire country.

The index measures three areas, order intake, turnover and employment. In each part, the result can vary between minus 100 and plus 100.

Extra vulnerable to being on an island

Behind the bleak figures lies the effects of the corona pandemic and the restricted travel.

- This is very difficult with our location as an island and that so many of our companies are based on meeting, meeting and traveling, says Nancy Yussef.

In addition, many companies' finances are based on the fact that a lot of money comes in during the summer season, which makes it possible to cope with the low season during the winter season.

Gloomy also in Östergötland

If you instead look at the twelve months that have passed, Östergötland County stands out. Together with Västmanland and Norrbotten County, Östergötland has the weakest economic situation in the country. In the country as a whole, economic indicators in 19 counties fell.
