  • Saturday Jean-Luc Mélenchon,
  • The left coalition welcomes this support positively, but with caution, given the broad electoral spectrum it is targeting.
  • The right sees in this support a radicalization of the movement

He was one of the big ones absent before the first round of the municipal elections. Certainly, the pension reform took a lot of his time. But the MP for Marseille and leader of La France Insoumise was careful not to take part in the municipal campaign in Marseille. After trying to build the union of the left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who disagreed with the strategy adopted by the Printemps de Marseille and its leader Michèle Rubirola, was discreet. The member of parliament contented himself with supporting, in the 13th and 14th arrondissements, a list led by an LFI activist ... against the Marseille Spring list in this sector.

But this Saturday, Jean-Luc Mélenchon came out of the woods. With, as a gift, lip service to Michèle Rubirola, who came out on top in the first round. "From the point of view of the interest of the city and its breathing, the population, the citizens of Marseille have an interest in turning to the side of the list that Ms. Rubirola directs," he concedes. And to tackle the one he says he doubts his strategy: "In a second round, we do not hesitate between the left, even traditional, and the right for people like me. "

"The masks fall"

“This support was not so simple, analyzes Sophie Camard. He did what he had to do. It was not normal that the only left-wing deputy in Marseille should be silent. You know that we had disagreements on the political strategy of a large rally. But I didn't like this situation which created ambiguity. Now, according to her, "left-wing voters who hesitated to vote for the Marseilles Spring will perhaps mobilize".

Almost immediately after the announcement of this support, the right engulfed itself in a breach, repeating the same elements of language which consist in associating the candidates of the left with the "friends of Mélenchon", as Martine Vassal still writes in a press release sent Tuesday evening. "The masks are falling," says Valérie Boyer, spokesperson for Martine Vassal. Some voters might have thought that the Marseilles Spring was a list of sympathetic ecologists. But they are in reality candidates of France Insoumise! And there is only one match today, that between the extreme left and Martine Vassal! "

Results of the municipal elections in Marseille

At a recent press conference, Martine Vassal even described the list led by Michèle Rubirola as "red danger". A strategy of the president of the metropolis that refuses to comment on Benoît Payan, from the PS and spokesperson for Michèle Rubirola. " It's ridiculous. Let her respond by talking about her record, and I will respond by talking about my program. The left coalition knows, however, what such support means, given the broad electoral spectrum it is targeting. "Jean-Luc Mélenchon is a divisive personality as we say today," concedes Sophie Camard. But we will also have the support of more centrist or ecological personalities, in a logic of rallying the left that is ours. This Tuesday, in the evening, the Printemps marseillais announced the arrival this Thursday of EELV mayor Eric Piolle, who will stroll through the districts in which Michèle Rubirola is a candidate.
