Real Madrid have chosen to continue the matches of the current season at Alfredo de Stefano, but a new decision by the Spanish authorities may push the Royal Administration to regret and resort to playing its games in the rival stadium Atlético Madrid.

Real Madrid decided to use the matches in the coming period without fans to move to the Stefano stadium and accelerate the works to renew the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, but the Spanish government now appears open to allowing the fans to return to the stands in reduced numbers once all the regions of the country have the green light to return the rallies.

This may mean that league leaders Barcelona may play their matches against about 30,000 fans at Camp Nou, but Real Madrid will have only 1,800 fans in the six thousand-seat Alfredo de Stefano.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo came out with statements today, Wednesday, and said that he would be happy if the rivals Real Madrid played their last games at Wanda Metropolitano, the stronghold of Atletico, and added, "No one should doubt our willingness to assist Real Madrid."

Real allowed his neighbor Atletico to play in the Santiago Bernabeu in his first game of the 1996-1997 season when the former Atletico stadium, "Vicente Calderon" was not ready.

The cost of the works to develop the Bernabeu Stadium - which is expected to be completed in 2023 - is approximately 575 million euros, and includes the construction of a movable roof and the development of a 360-degree moving plate.

The Royal Club is planning to return to its stadium at the start of next season, and the ongoing work will not affect the attendance of fans and the organization of matches.
